Home Depot has stepped up their game in the lighting department.  I was browsing the other day and they have some gorgeous ceiling lights in the store at some really affordable price points.

Paint by Number Art

A few days ago, I snagged this little paint by number art beauty off Etsy for Madeline's room:

 

 

Paint by number was invented in the 1950's by Max S. Klein, owner of the Palmer Paint Company and artist Dan Robbins.  The kits quickly gained popularity and everyone from housewives to government officials to TV celebrities was transformed into instant artists.  The Palmer Paint Company's archives are now housed in the Smithsonian and even Martha did a little segment about collecting paint by numbers, you can check it out here.

 

I am fascinated with paint by number art.  I love the technique and the look of the finished pieces and the variety of scenes and subjects.  Etsy has a great collection of these affordable pieces of Americana.

Fairy God-Decorator

You know how Cinderella had a fairy godmother who made her look fabulous?  Well, I have decided I need a fairy god-decorator who can make Madeline's nursery look fabulous before she gets here.  Here's what I go so far:

 

 

Here's what still needs to happen:

 

-Hang rods and curtains (I just tacked them up in the photo to get a better idea of what they would look like)

-Spray paint Vittsjo shelves (these will go on either side of the crib)

-Purchase lighting, art, and accessories (always the hardest part for me to do)

 

So which one of you has a magic wand?

It's Fall Ya'll

Well, I thought it was fall until Sandy blew through and I had to wrap my pregnant self up like Randy in "A Christmas Story".  But I am still pretending it's fall and have decorated my dining room accordingly.  I am sure you have seen enough fall decor on the internet lately to last you a lifetime, but I am adding my two cents.  Here it is:

 

 

It's pretty much the same principle as my Halloween decor.  For the mantle decorations, I started with the burlap material that I didn't use on the Halloween pillows.  I then snipped some free decorations out of my yard (branches, leaves and pine cones) and layered them on top of the burlap.  I used votives and candleholders which can be used at other times of the year (notice a few from the Halloween mantle) and elevated them with plastic bowls and cups hidden underneath the burlap.  I added in a couple of small fake pumpkins (I love the real ones, but am lazy and hate to go buy them each year) and a fall wreath and the mantle is complete. 

 

 

 

 

 

Next up is the table.  I found these great salad plates at WorldMarket and they will be used year round on my table. 



I then used the same platter and cake stand from the Halloween decor.  I covered them with burlap, added some leaves and pinecones as a base, then topped it off with more fake pumpkins and a couple of votives.  So easy!
